There are about 500'000 blind people in Viet Nam – mostly among the poor. “Cataract” accounts for two thirds of all cases. Cataract surgery, although a simple operation and with cost of about 1 million VND only – is totally unaffordable for many of the poor victims.

Program introduction

Of all eye diseases that lead to blindness of both eyes in Vietnam, 83% are considered inevitable, 69% can be cured and 15% could have been prevented.

The quality of life of these poor victims is very low as they often depend on others even for their basic daily needs. This is very unfortunate as their blindness could be cured with a short surgery, with just a little pain and at very reasonable cost. After a few hours, these people could see the light again, live happily, have an independent life and would no longer be a burden to their families and the society.

Aspiring to help these poor escape darkness, restore their vision and bring back joy of life to them, we decided to cooperate with the Ho Chi Minh city Eye Hospital (Saint Paul Hospital), the leader in eye health in South Vietnam to offer cataract operation to the poor.

The program will be implemented nationwide in the following way:
The program supports surgical costs, medications and all travel expenses for doctors and nurses from the Eye Hospital to the various provinces to organize surgery to treat cataract and other eye diseases for the poor, who live in remote areas and can not afford go to a hospital. Eye Charity Vietnam will pay 1 million per eye, the remaining cost will be covered by HCMC Eye Hospital.
HCMC Eye Hospital provides technology, medical personnel and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Local eye hospitals prescreen the local blind people to find the ones that can be healed by an operation, and they also take care of the patients after operation until they have fully recovered.
The financing of the program is very transparent. Donations are paid directly into a dedicated bank account of the Eye Hospital, which is closely monitored by both sides to ensure funds are used for the right purpose. There are no admin costs to be paid from these funds.

We sincerely hope that you will find this honest, straightforward and very efficient charity program very appealing and will want to promote it along with us with your generous support.

For little money you can let blind people regain their vision and return to a normal and happy life.
We appreciate your concern and welcome any support for this program.
